Yes you better believe it, it’s that time of year again! The Christmas decorations have come and gone and we’re now bombarded with chocolate eggs and fluffy toy bunnies wherever we go, Easter has officially arrived.
Many countries around the world play host to some pretty interesting Easter traditions. Let’s take a look…
In Bermuda, Good Friday is celebrated through flying homemade kites and eating codfish cakes and hot cross buns.
In France, the iconic Easter Bunny isn’t the only animal representative for the holiday. You’ll also find chickens, ducks, fish and even bells as Easter symbols.
In Hungary, Easter Monday plays host to the tradition of sprinkling, also know as “Ducking Monday” where boys sprinkle perfume or perfumed water on girls and ask for a kiss. In the past it was believed the water had a cleansing effect, inducing healing and fertility.
In China, although Easter itself is not commonly celebrated, the coming of spring is welcomed by painting eggs and giving them as gifts. Eggs convey the image of spring, rebirth, fertility and life. The painted eggs are believed to be holy and spiritual.
